One Little’s potential.
We have a new look, but our mission is the same. And the need is more urgent than ever.
We’ve always known that kids have incredible potential.
Now we’re deliberately shining a light on this potential and the role we all play as defenders of it.
Will you join us?
We know that pairing children with a caring, committed mentor changes lives and strengthens families. When you donate, you position our agency to create “matches” like Michelle and Ruby.
With five children in tow, Ruby’s mom, Jessica, made the brave decision to flee a home plagued with domestic abuse. Jessica turned to Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide needed support for her children. It was a dark and difficult time for 11-year-old Ruby and her family, but Ruby discovered there was strength to be found in her Big Sister, Michelle. While her relationship with Michelle developed over the first few months, Ruby embraced her own inner light, while Mom enjoyed the comfort that comes from knowing your children are going to be OK.
At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we know mentoring is not about “saving”a child. It’s really about defending, empowering and igniting their potential.
Today, nine months in, the dark days are gone. Now Ruby looks forward to simple things like sharing a nice dinner and beautiful sunset with her Big Sister. And Jessica is grateful: “It’s changed my life. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a support system I’ve never had. I don’t feel alone anymore.” All five of Jessica’s children have been matched with a Big mentor this past year.
But pairing Bigs with Littles like Michelle and Ruby requires donations from the community. Each match costs our agency $1,200 per year, due to the in-depth screening, training, and ongoing support we provide. It takes all of us working together – including people like you – to volunteer or make a contribution.
