For our February Partner Spotlight we interview Service Electric Cable TV 2 General Manger Andy Himmelwright. Andy’s been a long time supporter of BBBSLV, especially our annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraising event. The day of this year’s event, Sunday, March 4, SECTV2 will be live on the air from Parkway Lanes in Allentown.
1. How did SECTV’s support of BBBSLV and Bowl For Kids’ Sake start?
Service electric Founder John Walson Jr. always believed in giving back to the community, and he believed that Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley was one of the most important organizations in the area. For over 35 years, Service Electric TV2 has been broadcasting Bowl For Kids’ Sake, and we look forward to many years to come.
2. Why is it important for SECTV and its staff to support BBBSLV and this particular annual fundraising event?
The future of the community lies within its youth, and the foundation of Service Electric TV2 Sports is in covering high school athletics. Proper mentorship breeds leadership, helping students to succeed in the classroom and beyond , whether it be on the basketball court, in the swimming pool, or on the soccer field. Every weeknight on Lehigh Valley Sports Scene we highlight these student athletes at what they do best, and without them, there is no show.
3. SECTV’s live broadcast during the event features interviews with Bigs & Littles, as well as BBBSLV staff members. How does this help to expose Lehigh Valley residents to our organization and the work it does with children in the community?
Service Electric TV2 Sports is known not only for its local high school coverage, but our professional sports coverage. The Lehigh Valley knows to look to us for interviews with future stars of the MLB and NHL. It’s on that same stage that we interview the Bigs and Littles as well as the BBBSLV staff members. The same quality, Emmy Award-winning production that goes into the Iron Pigs baseball and Phantoms hockey game goes into our Bowl For Kids’ Sake broadcast, and exposes BBBSLV and all of it’s wonderful virtues to our entire audience.
4. What is your favorite part of Bowl For Kids’ Sake?
For us, it’s the camaraderie of all the local business and organizations banding together to support something that is so important to the fabric of our community. It’s impossbile to walk into the commotion that is happening on the day of the event and not have a giant smile on your face. Everyone is having a great time for a wonderful cause, and being able to bring that feeling to everyone at home who can’t make it out to the bowling alley is our favorite part of Bowl For Kids’ Sake.
