When Ady, a single mom, learned her daughter Briza was faced with new obstacles, life became overwhelming for both of them. Briza struggled with social skills, school, and daily life, leaving Ady desperate for help. That’s when Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lehigh Valley (BBBSLV) stepped in, connecting Briza with her Big Sister, Sally—changing their lives forever.
From their first meeting, Briza and Sally clicked like two pieces of a puzzle. Bonding over their love of graphic design and anime, they shared jokes, crafted costumes, and explored new experiences. Whether volunteering at an animal shelter, trying ramen, or attending a Renaissance Festival in costume, Sally empowered Briza to embrace her creativity and confidence.
Through Sally’s guidance, Briza earned college credits in graphic design and developed skills that shattered the limits once imposed by her challenges. “Briza has blossomed into an independent, optimistic young woman,” Ady shares. “She has the courage to engage with her peers and the confidence to pursue her dreams!”
For Sally, mentoring has been equally rewarding. “Seeing Briza’s growth has been incredible. Sharing my experiences as a designer has given her new goals—and inspired me in return!”
Briza’s story is proof of mentorship’s life-changing power. But right now, we have over 375 children like Briza are still waiting for a mentor. You can be the reason another child discovers their potential.
