BBBSLV currently has over 300 children who have expressed an interest in receiving a Big, but due to a limited number of volunteers and staffing capacity, we are unable to match everyone immediately.
The BBBSLV Waiting List Club offers these children an opportunity to engage in a small group mentoring experience as well as enriching activities as they wait to be paired with a Big.
When does the Waiting List Club meet?
Activities will be hosted monthly on the second Wednesday of each month from 6pm-8pm. They will primarily be held at the BBBSLV office and occasionally off-site.
Volunteers are asked to commit to helping at three activities per calendar year. Volunteers will work with groups of 3-5 children to interact with and guide them throughout the monthly activities. The majority of children on our waiting list are boys, so male volunteers are needed!
What is the enrollment process?
Prospective volunteers will need to:
- Submit a volunteer application and references
- Complete background checks
- Meet with a BBBSLV staff member to complete an in-person interview
What activities will be hosted?
Our kickoff activity will be a behind-the scenes-tour and meet-and-greet with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms! Additional activities will include a science night visit from the DaVinci Center, a cooking and nutrition evening, and an artmaking experience with the Banana Factory.
What kind of support will I receive?
Each volunteer will be assigned a designated Program Support Specialist who will assist with any questions or concerns throughout program participation.
