1. What is Greater Goods Lehigh Valley and how does an online consignment shop work?
Greater Goods Lehigh Valley is a community-based online clothing resale site that specializes in the collection and sale of new and like-new clothing and accessories, in turn generating revenue for local non-profit organizations.
Greater Goods LV is like consignment, but instead of an individual consignor receiving a percentage of the sale, the local non-profit of a clothing donor’s choice is the recipient of the sale. When you shop Greater Goods LV, you are able to choose from hundreds of name-brand women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories for sale at just a fraction of retail price, available 24/7, delivered right to your door. You can look good and feel good, knowing that your purchase has helped others in your community.
2. Why and when did you start the organization?
As a Lower Macungie resident and social worker, I have seen both the abundance our community enjoys as well as the unmet needs. In response to this, I decided to start Greater Goods Lehigh Valley to turn surplus clothing into funds to help meet needs in our community.
I’ve been working in the nonprofit sector for nearly 20 years and I’ve been shopping second-hand my entire life so this idea has been brewing for a LONG time! But the actual planning and behind-the-scenes work of Greater Goods began in the fall of 2017 and I went public with website on MLK Day in 2018.
I decided to structure Greater Goods LV as an online company so that it would 1. be easily accessible to residents across the Valley, 2. keep overhead costs low, which helps keep prices low and proceeds to nonprofits high and 3. so that I could have he flexibility to be available at home full time for my two kids.
3. How will Greater Goods LV work with BBBSLV?
We are so proud to partner with BBBSLV to help turn clothing in to Big/Little matches in the Lehigh Valley. As partners, our two groups will work together to promote each other’s work and mission. In addition to donating 50% of the net proceeds to BBBSLV for each item sold on their behalf, Greater Goods LV will also be sharing BBBS organizational needs, events and successes with the Greater Goods LV community. Meanwhile, BBBSLV will help to connect their supporters to donation and shopping opportunities offered by Greater Goods LV that will benefit BBBSLV.
4. How can area residents and BBBSLV supporters get involved?
There are a number of different ways to support BBBSLV through Greater Goods LV. One way is to shop! 50% of each purchase made through www.greatergoodslv.org will be donated to a local non-profit. Each item is tagged with the name of the non-profit that will receive the proceeds, so you can choose to shop exclusively for items that will benefit BBBSLV.
Another way to get involved is to donate. When you donate new and like-new women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories to Greater Goods LV and designate BBBSLV as the nonprofit recipient, BBBSLV will receive 50% of the net proceeds when the item sells. We collect items that originally retailed for $30 or more and are in excellent condition. Handbags, shoes and dresses will earn the most.
